Hi Everyone!

Lots going on and I’m dying to share everything with you, but today I am sharing a couple of cute little desks that I painted a couple of weeks ago! Love the way this school desk makeover worked out!

My sweet sweet friend Margie was downsizing and moving and sold me 2 of these lovely wood desks. They belonged to her her 2 beautiful daughters, both who are all grown up now and I hope they are ok with me changing up their little school desks! I neglected to get a picture of the 2 of them “before”

(I’m learning, what can I say?)

I cleaned the pieces with a mild degreaser, then used a gum remover to get rid of…well…gum…there were also a lot of stickers on these babies at one time (thank you very much Leslie and Sarah ha ha) so I had to get rid of all the residue as well. A good gum remover, followed by a degreaser and a good rinse worked well, I then gave them a little light sanding and started to paint!

I decided to spray paint the little desks – I know – I know – I’m a lover of milk paints and chalk paints, but I wanted to try out my snazzy new spray paint nozzles from Rustoleum that I received at Haven, and it rocked. I’m on a mission to try all of the products that were donated and that I lugged home brought home. I don’t think I will be spraying a lot of pieces, but for this piece I thought I would try it.

I used Cherry Red. I LOVE the colour!

I gave the body of the desks 2 light coats, I wanted to see the wood grain through the red and it came out perfect if I do say so myself!

I painted the arms with Rustoleums Chalk Board paint that I brought home from Haven as well, I just rolled it on the arms. Easy peasy.

I did 3 coats of the chalkboard paint, letting it dry well between coats! I did “prepare” the chalkboard by using a piece of chalk on its side and covering the entire area then wiping off. This seasons your chalkboard and is a super important step if you are using chalkboard paint! Now the kids can write right on the desk itself – way fun right?

I was going to spray the body with a poly to protect, but the finish seems super hard, and they have turned out so nicely I think I’ll leave them as they are! I hope Margie’s little girls approve!

Here they are together, my little red painted desks, all painted up and ready to find new homes.
