Ask Me Mondays - Front Porch Mercantile

Welcome to our new weekly series. Ask me Mondays!

I get asked a lot of questions about up cycling, painting with all three of our paints, Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint, Fusion Mineral Paint, Β FAT Paint Chalk Paint other question daily, so I thought I would ask you what you want to know and try to answer some of the most commonly asked questions.

This week’s question is from Mary M. (and a whole lot of other have asked) Her question ” I’ve never painted anything ever, can I really paint my own furniture?”

Our answer…as you know…is a big HECK YES! Our paints are all geared to the Do It Yourself-er, not professional furniture painters (although professional furniture painters like our paints too…just saying)

YOU can paint Front Porch Mercantile

Come in and see Lise or I and we will talk you through it, or sign up for a workshop where we don’t just teach you how to use our paints, you also get to have HANDS ON by learning to mix milk paint or sand FAT Paint smooth or use embossing creams from our Fusion line or stencil and more. Hands on gives you the confidence to go home and create. You can check out our workshop schedule here. It’s a little quieter for workshops in the summer. But we still have a few for you to choose from.

And we have fun too. Just saying.

“But I don’t have time for a workshop” thats ok too. We can show you how and you can go home and play. We also offer one on one private lessons. Email or drop in for more info.

Our paints are all easy and fun to use, with little or no VOC’s (yucky chemicals) safe – require no sanding, no stripping, no primer. No kidding.

They are easy peasy and fun. I promise. YOU can do this.

I love to remind people, its just paint. My favourite quote is this one from my friend Laura at The Ironstone Nest. We have this posted in our workshop too as a reminder!

Furniture Refinishing

HAVE NO FEAR!

EVERY expert was once a beginner.

There is no mistake that can’t be remedied with sandpaper (or more paint)

It’s JUST paint. And guess what? YES you CAN!!

Come see me sometime. I’ll show you how!

It’s easy. And Fun. For real.

K?

Send me you questions for next week’s Ask Me Mondays! I’d love to help you out.

Cheers,

Wendy

  1. When I,m painting with Fusion Mineral paint , sometimes I,ll get black streaks when I,m stroking my brush back and forth. What,s causing this.my brush is clean or new. And my paint is stirred. ( especially-casement)

    1. Hi Anna, it sounds like its not mixed enough. The black streaks are actually the minerals making up the paint colour. If they occur you can just brush to the left to the right, up/down and they will go away! Hope that helps! Wendy

  2. Hi Wendy … question for you … my sister has painted a coffee table with Fusion Paint ( taupe) … she is also using Antiquing Glaze for that beautiful antique look … once it’s all dry and set can she use the Beeswax Finish as the top coat for protection ?

Thanks Wendy … I appreciate your feedback !

    1. Hi Valerie, yes, absolutely, once its dry she can add the beeswax for extra protection! Send me a picture once she’s finished :)
