How To Easily Make a Chalkboard
I get asked a lot about making chalkboards – from frames, old pictures, mirrors – everything!
A client asked me to take this older mirror she had and turn it into a chalkboard. So I did.
It’s super simple.
Steps from Mirror to Chalkboard
- Clean the entire piece and lightly sand the frame
- Paint the frame using Fat Paint (I used Tuscan Sun) 2 coats, then use Furniture Wax to top coat
- Use Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint in Typewriter to cover the mirror. I used the Bonding Agent mixed into the paint to hold, 2 or 3 coats – NO TOP COAT, be sure to let the paint cure
- Prime the chalkboard with chalk (see how in the video)
That’s it! Easy Peasy!
Here it is in my clients pretty kitchen. Lovely right?
Here’s a little video I did to explain the process. I totally feel super duper awkward doing videos, so no laughing, well, ok, you can laugh a little, we’re all about the fun around here. :)
