Veering off a little from furniture painting and sharing a little bit of what we have been up to in our DIY world at home. We never have time to work on the house now. This serial DIY’er has been itching to get work done around here. We have been slowly turning our big ole’ house into a home. When we moved in a few years ago, we hired a painter for the first time ever and an interior decorator and picked all the colours in a day. A day. Not my style. That was the dumbest thing I’ve ever done. Really. I think you need to live in a space first. We have since repainted almost every room.  (I say we, I mean Mr FPM) The colours we had picked were all from our old home. Our old life. I was settling for the same old. I have since decided to just paint and decorate the way I want and feel and thus our painting of this house continues. When we have time. Which we never ever do.

So, a week before Christmas, sipping coffee on a Sunday morning, I said to hubby “hey, we should paint the kitchen” and he said “ok”. So we did. These are the before pictures, excuse the dog toys and mess, this is how we live, keeping it real. I snapped these 2 seconds before we started tearing everything down. The entire house was in Autumn colours, but I am changing up to light. I still love Autumn colours, but was ready for a change.

We did the board and batten treatment awhile ago when we renovated the kitchen. I love it. We painted the main floor family room and living room last year in the lighter colour and this one area was driving me crazy. So, paint brush in hand, and coffee on, hubby painted for me. (He’s a keeper)

First we took all the Christmas decor down, so we could paint, and then put it all back up. We are crazy!

Honestly, am I the only one that gets giddy when the paint starts going on?

While we were in the middle of painting, I decided to paint my leather bench. Yup, I painted the leather bench. With Fat Paint. You can read about that here.

Love how the new colour lightened up the whole kitchen!

I love how paint changes everything. Really. It makes me so happy. It’s been a couple of weeks now, and I can’t stop saying ” I’m so happy we painted the kitchen”. I’m searching for window treatments and new chairs now, and the buffet was just found and will be painted as soon as we have time..maybe next Christmas :)

Start to finish in one afternoon and the best part it was ZERO cost to do. ZERO. We had paint leftover from when we painted the shop (yes, my shop and my house are the same colour, don’t judge me)

Crazy right?

Cheers guys,

Wendy

ps… the Mr decided at 1030 that same night we should just keep painting, and has started the last of the main floor area – the entry and stairwell. Good bye Acorn. Told you he was a keeper! (Will post after pictures next week)
