I am asked daily if you can use Milk Paint on previously painted or varnished pieces. The answer is YES! Yes you can, you just have to add a little of our Bonding Agent to your Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint. Easy peasy!

Not only can you paint previously painted and finished pieces, you can also use it to paint metal, glass and other glossy shiny surfaces! Yup. Thats right. Take a moment and think about the possibilities. I’ll wait.

Bonding agent is a water-based concentrated acrylic emulsion. (Thats a mouthful) It’s a no voc’s pure acrylic resin. And it rocks. It is mixed right into the mixed Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint, so easy! This product contains no solvents of VOC and is almost odourless and is Made in Canada! Yup.

Clean up is a breeze – just clean brushes and tools with warm, soapy water.

Milk Paint may not “stick” to your paint, poly or finish, which is cool if you are looking for the chippy look like this piece Miss Mustard Seed has in her home (and as an aside..meet Eulalie the Cow, the blue sky in this picture is the inspiration for Eulalie’s Sky one of our colours.) But I digress..I do that, sorry..baack to the chippy. No Bonding Agent used can give you the chippy look! Gorgeous, but not always what we are looking for.

To ensure no chippiness, use Bonding Agent! To mix bonding agent for optimal adhesion mix equal parts bonding agent to mixed milk paint. You will want to add bonding agent to each coat, this helps the adhesion.

Want to make a chalk board wall? Easy again. Use Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint in Typewriter (or any colour), mix with bonding agent and you have yourself a chalkboard wall. Check out this one Miss Mustard Seed painted for the Toronto Home Show (and hand lettered the logo and wording – wow right?) this wall was a big hit with visitors to our booth.
