The Photography On The Rocks Experience
Seeing with New Eyes in Lunenburg & Blue Rocks, Nova Scotia
October 3-5, 2025 | Social gathering, workshops, and field trips
Beginner to Intermediate | $499 | Max 12 participants
Join landscape and adventure photographer John Batten and creative guide David Maginley for a two-day photography experience that invites you to see differently, feel deeply, and express yourself through the lens.
Set in the vibrant harbour town of Lunenburg and the quiet charm of Blue Rocks, this hands-on workshop blends landscape photography with creative reflection and plenty of fun!
The event begins with a little East Coast hospitality and meet and greet social on Friday night in Blue Rocks, followed by outings in the area and workshops on Saturday and Sunday, with hearty lunches provided.
It’s not about the gear — it’s about the vision.
Designed for beginner to intermediate photographers, this workshop welcomes anyone with a desire to connect more intentionally to their surroundings — and themselves. You can bring a DSLR, mirrorless camera, or smartphone. What matters most is how you see.
Saturday and Sunday will be spent exploring the area and diving into the creative process: What does it mean to “make” an image rather than just take one? We’ll share our favourite photos that hold meaning, capturing the colour, texture, and light of historic Lunenburg and Blue Rocks.
You’ll learn how to slow down, tune in, and let the story of the landscape emerge through your eye and your presence.
Throughout the weekend, David will guide creative and self-reflective exercises, helping you move beyond technical concerns to a more soulful approach to photography.
John will offer practical tips and inspiration from his travels and extensive nature portfolio – the result: a weekend of authentic connection, mindful creativity, and powerful imagery.
